Apple WeatherKit
Weather data is provided by Apple WeatherKit. Location coordinates are sent to Apple to retrieve weather information. Apple Privacy Policy
Google AdMob
For users on the free version, we use Google AdMob (the Google Mobile Ads SDK) to deliver in-app advertising. To serve, measure, and (where permitted) personalize ads, Google may collect and process information such as your device's advertising identifier (IDFA), IP address, general device information, and how you interact with ads. See the Advertising section below for full details. Google Privacy Policy
5. Advertising
WeatherPets is free to use. To support the free version, we display advertising to users who are not subscribed to a paid plan. Subscribers do not see ads. Ads appear within the app (for example, native tiles in the weather feed) and, optionally, as a short rewarded video you can choose to watch to unlock a feature.
Google AdMob
We use Google AdMob (the Google Mobile Ads SDK) to deliver these ads. When you use the free version, AdMob may collect and process your device's Advertising Identifier (IDFA), an approximate location derived from your IP address, general device information (model, operating system version, language), and information about the ads shown to you and your interactions with them. With your permission (via the ATT prompt), this data may be used to personalize and measure ads, including across other apps and websites owned by other companies, which is "tracking" as Apple defines it. If you decline the ATT prompt (or turn off "Allow Apps to Request to Track" in iOS Settings), we instruct AdMob to serve non-personalized ads only. Some of this information may be shared with Google and, through Google's advertising network, with advertisers and their measurement partners. To learn how Google uses this data, see the Google Privacy Policy and the "How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services" notice. You can change or withdraw ad consent at any time under Settings, then Privacy options in the app.
App Tracking Transparency and the Advertising Identifier (IDFA)
On Apple devices, before we allow ads to be personalized using your device's advertising identifier, we ask for your permission through Apple's App Tracking Transparency (ATT) prompt. If you decline, or have not granted permission, ads are still shown but are non-personalized, and we do not use the advertising identifier to track you across other companies' apps and websites. You can change this choice at any time in iOS Settings, under Privacy & Security, then Tracking.
SKAdNetwork
We also use Apple's SKAdNetwork, a privacy-preserving system that measures ad-driven app installs without identifying you.
Advertising Consent and Withdrawal (EEA, UK, and Switzerland)
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, we ask for your consent before using cookies or identifiers for personalized advertising, using Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP) consent tool. You can change or withdraw your consent at any time in the app under Settings, then Privacy options. Withdrawing consent does not remove ads, but they will no longer be personalized.
Contextual Signals
To make ads more relevant, we may send Google limited context about the content you are viewing (for example, a reference to related pet-and-weather articles on myweatherpets.com). This is used for contextual matching and brand safety and does not identify you.
Legal Bases for Advertising (GDPR)
Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, we rely on the following legal bases for advertising activities:
- Personalized advertising and use of advertising identifiers: your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
- Non-personalized ad delivery, fraud prevention, and ad measurement: our legitimate interest in funding a free app, or your consent where required.
US State Privacy (California and Similar Laws)
Delivering personalized ads may be considered "sharing" of personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising under California (CCPA/CPRA) and other US state privacy laws. We do not sell your personal information for money. To opt out of this sharing, decline the App Tracking Transparency prompt, or turn off tracking in iOS Settings under Privacy & Security, then Tracking, which causes ads to be served on a non-personalized basis. Where offered, you may also use Settings, then Privacy options in the app to manage your choices.
Your Advertising Choices
- Turn off ad tracking: decline the tracking prompt, or open iOS Settings, then Privacy & Security, then Tracking.
- Change advertising consent (EEA, UK, Switzerland): open Settings, then Privacy options in the app.
- Manage Google ad settings: visit Google Ad Settings.
- Go ad-free: subscribe to a paid plan.
6. Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal data.
We may share limited data in the following circumstances:
- Service providers: With third-party services listed above, solely to operate the App's features
- Advertising partners: With Google (AdMob) to deliver, measure, and, with consent, personalize ads for users on the free version, as described in the Advertising section. Delivering personalized ads may constitute "sharing" for cross-context behavioral advertising under certain US state laws.
- Legal requirements: When required by law, regulation, or legal process
- Safety: To protect the rights, safety, or property of our users or the public
California residents: Using your Advertising Identifier for personalized ads may be considered "sharing" of personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising under the CCPA/CPRA. You can opt out at any time by declining the App Tracking Transparency prompt or disabling tracking in iOS Settings, which limits ads to non-personalized. We do not sell your personal information for money.
7. Data Retention and Deletion
We retain your data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service.
Account deletion: You can delete your account and all associated data at any time through the App settings. When you delete your account:
- Your user profile and preferences are permanently deleted
- All pet photos and AI-generated scenes are permanently deleted from our servers
- Your data is removed from Firebase within 30 days
- Some anonymized analytics data may be retained
8. Children's Privacy
WeatherPets is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under the age of 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your region). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Because we serve advertising, we configure our ad settings so that ads are not treated as child-directed, and we do not knowingly enable personalized advertising for children. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us through our support page and we will promptly delete such information.
9. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
- Deletion: Request deletion of your personal data (available through in-app account deletion)
- Export: Request a portable copy of your data
- Correction: Request correction of inaccurate personal data
- Opt-out: Opt out of certain data processing activities
To exercise these rights, contact us through our support page. For advertising-specific choices, including how to opt out of personalized ads and how to withdraw advertising consent in the EEA, UK, and Switzerland, see the Advertising section above.
10. International Data Transfers
Your information may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your own, including the United States, where our third-party service providers operate. These transfers are necessary to provide the App's services and are protected by appropriate safeguards including standard contractual clauses and the service providers' privacy frameworks.
11. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the updated policy in the App and updating the "Last Updated" date above. Your continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
