Park prep for Tokyo weather
- Pavement check first. Getting to the park often means sidewalks: on warm days do the 7-second pavement test before you set out. Asphalt can run 40 to 60 degrees hotter than the air.
- August is Tokyo's hottest month (average high 88.3°F), which means park trips are early/late only. Bring water for the park; shared bowls are a gamble.
- Winter park trips need paw care. Tokyo averages 3.1″ of snow, and the ice-melt salt that follows burns pads. Rinse paws after winter visits, or use booties.
- After rain, expect mud and check the live verdict above before you drive over: a storm cell can close your window fast. Post-rain zoomies are real; towel accordingly.
- Coldest stretch: January lows average 34.2°F in Tokyo. Below about 45°F, small and thin-coated dogs want a coat even for park time.
